Gyula
Kovacs
Mr. Kovacs is a quality and operations manager with
over 30 years of experience in industry and academia,
including 15 years of experience in manufacturing
and operations management and commercial, military,
and aerospace product and component and chemical compounds
manufacturing. An expert in managing quality
systems operations in a Lean manufacturing environment,
he successfully led two companies in achieving ISO
9001:9004 compliance and certification. His
areas of expertise include ISO/QS/AS 9000, Good Manufacturing
Practices (GMP), Occupational Safety & Health Administration
(OSHA), American Society for Testing and Materials
(ASTM), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
codes, Kaizen, Poka-Yoke, Six Sigma, Total Quality
Management (TQM), Statistical Process Control (SPC),
and auditing He has leveraged his proficiency
in these areas in his role as a consultant to over
a dozen companies.
As a quality engineer (specializing in electro-mechanical)
and project manager for M2 Global Technology, Mr.
Kovacs is responsible for achieving and maintaining
ISO 9001 and AS 9000 certification, which was granted
in 2006. Previously, he served as a technical
(manufacturing) consultant for Western Diesel Systems
in Bulverde, Texas, where he provided program management
for precision manufacturing operations. He
established quality program format, procedures, and
audit requirements; trained management and staff in
the QS 9000 process; and prepared all documentation
and procedures for full implementation and compliance.
At Texas Composite in Bourne, Texas, Mr. Kovacs served
as quality manager. His responsibilities
included identifying, analyzing, and reporting issues;
determining the cost of problem resolution and corrective
actions; supplier performance evaluation and selection;
contract reviews, quality planning, project scheduling,
and manpower need analysis. He developed
and implemented an ISO 9001 quality management system
that was certified by DNV.
As president, partner, and operations manager of Eurolabs,
Inc., in San Antonio, Mr. Kovacs directed plant operations
in the manufacture of custom-formulated chemicals. He
was responsible for profit and loss, production scheduling,
lab testing, certification, and compliance. At
Eldorado Chemical Company in San Antonio, he served
as operations manager and directed multi-plant operations
in producing chemical compounds for commercial, military,
and medical markets. His accomplishments
included achieving ISO compliance and receiving several
awards. Mr. Kovacs also has held quality
management positions at Scott Paper Company (acquired
by Kimberly-Clark) and Lancer Corporation.
Prior to his career in industry, Mr. Kovacs was a
tenured associate professor and department head (Mechanical
and Manufacturing Engineering Technology) at the University
of Arkansas in Little Rock. His responsibilities
included serving as faculty advisor and teaching,
developing, and implementing the manufacturing engineering
technology curriculum, guidelines, and operating procedures,
as well as preparing teaching schedules and annual
operating budgets.
