Global Chairman named to Shingo Prize Board of Governors

and chairman of the board, Douglas Carlberg, has been
reappointed to the Shingo
Prize Board of Governors. Previously
Mr. Carlberg served as vice president of operations
for Harris Corporation Microwave Communications Division. Under
his leadership, the division’s San Antonio operation
received numerous awards including the Shingo
Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing, the Organization
for Quality and Participation’s Organizational
Excellence Award, and IndustryWeek’s
Top 25 Best Plants in North America.
The Shingo Prize was established in 1988 to promote
awareness of lean manufacturing concepts and to recognize
companies that achieve world-class manufacturing status.
Today, the Shingo Prize is regarded as one of the
premier manufacturing award and recognition programs.

Week magazine considers it “the Nobel Prize
of Manufacturing.”
The Shingo Prize is presented to manufacturing sites
that have achieved dramatic performance improvements.
Prize recipients report phenomenal statistics such
as reducing setup times by one million minutes per
year, achieving inventory turns of 250 per year, and
cutting lead times from months to days. The
Shingo Prize highlights the value of using lean manufacturing
practices to attain world-class status. Winners
of the Prize are invariably organizations that make
it a priority to continually strive to improve their

Utah
State University's College of Business administers
the Shingo Prize, which is awarded annually. The
Prize is open to manufacturers in the United States,
Canada, and Mexico and to researchers worldwide.
